"Give Me the Child
Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered
I have fought my way here to the Castle beyond the Goblin City
to take back the child that you have stolen.
My will is as strong as yours
and my kingdom is as great..."
- Sarah's opening lines
Sarah Williams (Jennifer Connelly) is at the stage where young girls love to weave dreams.
Unfortunately, reality is such that she has the horrible responsibility of babysitting her
1½-year-old stepbrother, Toby (Toby Froud). One stormy night, after having words with her
stepmother and being made to babysit a persistently bawling Toby, Sarah, in a fit of
impulsive anger, wished that 'the goblins would come and take him away, right now.'
Well, they said to be careful what you wish for, it might just come true...
...and it did to
Sarah's surprise and dismay. Oh dear, what to to?
Enter the charismatic Goblin King (David Bowie), who offer Sarah a choice:
Either forget about the baby and he will give her her dreams or rescue Toby within 13
hours otherwise he will become a permanent resident in the Underground (hint: most of whom
are goblins)
Needless to say, Sarah chose to brave the Labyrinth to rescue Toby (thank goodness or there'll be no movie). Along the way, she befriended some pretty cool characters and in the process, learnt never to take things for granted, among other things.
